I Used to Think Sensitivity Was My Weakness — My Chart Told a Different Story

I Used to Think Sensitivity Was My Weakness — My Chart Told a Different Story

For most of my adult life, I experienced my sensitivity as a problem to be managed.

The way I felt rooms before I entered them. The way other people's pain registered in my own body as if it were mine. The way certain energies lingered in my nervous system for days after exposure. The way I could not watch certain films, be in certain spaces, have certain conversations without something in me needing significant recovery time afterward.

I called it being too sensitive. I called it something to work on. I called it, in my less generous moments, exhausting.

My chart had a different word for it entirely.

What Cancer Rising Actually Means in the Body

The Ascendant is not just how others see you. It is your sensory threshold — the membrane between your inner world and everything outside it. Cancer Rising means that membrane is exquisitely permeable. You feel what others are carrying. You absorb the energetic quality of spaces. Your body responds to the emotional environment the way a body in water responds to currents — not as metaphor, but as literal physiological reality.

For years I treated this permeability as a structural flaw. Something to armor against. The spiritual bypassing, the performance of okayness, the relentless doing of my Sagittarius 6th house — all of it was, in part, a strategy to manage a nervous system that was receiving far more than it had been given tools to process.

What somatic healing gave me was not less permeability. It gave me capacity. The ability to feel everything my Cancer Rising receives without being flooded by it. The difference between a vessel that holds and a vessel that overflows is not the quality of what enters — it is the strength of the container.

The Pisces Moon Conjunct My MC — Feeling as Vocation

My Moon is in Pisces, conjunct my Midheaven. The MC is the most public point of the natal chart — the place where private self meets its most outward expression, its calling, its contribution to the world. My emotional body, my feeling nature, my Pisces capacity for empathy and dissolution and the mystical — that is conjunct the point that describes my life's work.

My feelings are not separate from my vocation. They are the vocation. The capacity to feel deeply, to receive what others are carrying, to translate the somatic and the spiritual into language that lands in the body — that is not incidental to what I do. It is the entire mechanism.

I spent years trying to be less emotional in professional contexts. Trying to bring the Capricorn Sun forward — the structured, capable, together version of myself — and keep the Pisces Moon in the background. What I was doing was trying to mute the most essential tool I had.

Pluto in My 8th House and the Sensitivity That Survived

Since 2022, Pluto has been transiting my 8th house — moving through the most intimate, most subterranean territory of my chart. And in this transit, the sensitivity I spent decades managing has become the thing I cannot afford to suppress. Because Pluto in the 8th house requires you to feel. Fully. Without the management strategies. Without the armor.

The intimacy that Pluto demands — in marriage, in soul work, in the deepest recesses of self-knowledge — is only accessible through the body. Through the willingness to feel what is present without editing it, transcending it, or performing composure over it.

The sensitivity I thought was my weakness is the exact quality that makes this transit navigable. Because feeling is not falling apart. Feeling is how transformation actually moves.

What I Want You to Know About Your Own Sensitivity

If you have spent years managing sensitivity you were not sure was an asset — if you have a Cancer Ascendant or a Pisces Moon or strong 12th house placements or any of the signatures that make you feel the world more acutely than seems manageable — I want to offer you this:

Your sensitivity is not a wound waiting to be healed. It is a capacity waiting to be held.

The somatic healing work that has transformed my relationship to my own sensitivity is not about feeling less. It is about building enough nervous system regulation that feeling does not destabilize you. That the full amplitude of what you receive can move through you rather than accumulating in the tissue.

You were not built wrong. You were built for depth. And depth, met with the right tools, is not a burden. It is your most extraordinary gift.

If You Are Ready to Understand the Map of Your Own Sensitivity

If you are ready to see your own chart through this lens — not just the placements, but what your body has been carrying in response to them — a Soul Map Reading may be exactly what this season is calling for. It is a 1:1 session where we bring your natal chart and your somatic wisdom into the same conversation for the first time. I would be honored to hold that space with you. You are warmly invited to explore it at carriesymes.com whenever it feels right.

Blessings of Love & Light,
