My Spiritual Awakening Story: What Broke Open in 2021

spiritual awakening story - woman in quiet reflection

I don't tell this story the way people expect. There's a version of a spiritual awakening story that shows up in movies and on social media — a woman has a realization, cries a beautiful single tear, and emerges softly glowing, fully healed, three days later. I want to tell you the real one, because I think you deserve the real one, and because if you are somewhere in the middle of your own right now, you need to know it doesn't look like the version you were sold.

Mine started on an ordinary morning in 2021. Nothing about the setting was significant, other than I was in the shower..... And then something struck me with the force of lightning — not a metaphorical lightning, an actual bodily jolt, a knowing so complete and so sudden that it brought me to my knees on the floor of my own home, in the shower. I did not choose this moment. It chose me.

What a Spiritual Awakening Story Doesn't Usually Tell You

Here is the part most people skip: it did not feel like enlightenment. It felt like the floor of my life had been pulled out from under me while I was still standing on it. Everything I thought I understood about who I was, what I had lived through, and why certain things had always felt inexplicably heavy — all of it cracked open at once, and none of it came with an instruction manual.

In the weeks and months that followed, I started having what I can only describe as past life recalls. Not vague impressions — specific, embodied, sensory memories that arrived uninvited, usually at the worst possible times, usually accompanied by a physical sensation in my body that made it impossible to dismiss as imagination. I want to be honest with you: this was disorienting. I did not have language for it yet. I did not have community for it yet. I had a body that suddenly remembered things my mind had never been told, and no idea what to do with that.

What I did have was a lifetime of practice at being quiet about the things that made other people uncomfortable. I had learned early — the way so many of you reading this learned early — to take up less space than I actually needed, to keep the too-much parts of myself tucked away where they wouldn't cost me anything. So my first instinct, even in the middle of the biggest rupture of my life, was to keep it to myself.

The Slow, Unglamorous Middle of a Spiritual Awakening Story

This is the part that never makes it into anyone's highlight reel: years. Not weeks. Years of somatic breakthroughs that arrived slowly, in fragments, in sessions where my body would suddenly release something my mind had no story for. Years of learning to let wisdom that had apparently always been inside me actually land — not just be understood intellectually, but be felt, held, integrated into a nervous system that had spent decades bracing.

I tried to explain pieces of it to people close to me, early on. I remember what it cost the one or two times I did — the room went quiet in that particular way that tells you something in you has just become too much for the space you're in. So I got more selective. I found the people who could hold it. I kept doing the work regardless of who was watching.

What I know now, on the other side of that slow middle, is that the lightning-strike moment wasn't the awakening. It was the doorway. The actual awakening was everything that happened after — the years of letting my body catch up to what my soul had already remembered.

Why I Tell This Spiritual Awakening Story Now

I don't share this to be examined or admired. I share it because I know what it is to sit exactly where you might be sitting right now — cracked open, disoriented, with no one around you who quite gets it, wondering if you are losing your mind or finally, terrifyingly, arriving in it.

You're not losing your mind. You're remembering something your mind was never built to hold alone.

If some part of you recognized itself in this — if you've had your own version of the floor dropping out, or you're carrying knowings you've never said out loud to anyone — I'd be honored to hold space for that with you. A Soul Map Reading reads your natal chart as the soul document it actually is, and can help make sense of why certain years, certain ruptures, land the way they do. Or if you're not sure where to start, a free Clarity Call is exactly that — no pitch, just a conversation.

You make sense. Every single part of this makes sense.
